Edge Collaboration District

The Edge District is where industry, research and talent converge to create meaningful innovations and real outcomes to K-State, Kansas, the City of Manhattan, and beyond. Integrating with the Edge District situates companies at the heart of a dynamic collaboration hub that’s already home to a diverse network of domestic and international partners.

Over the last 15 years, the City of Manhattan and partners at Kansas State University and the State of Kansas have been working to redevelop the north campus corridor into what is now know as the Edge District.

North Campus Corridor Overview

The North Campus Corridor (NCC) project has expanded the major roadways near K-State University and the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility (NBAF): Kimball, Denison, College, and North Manhattan Avenues. Kimball Avenue serves as the arterial roadway connecting Kansas Highway 113 and U.S. Highway 24 to NBAF.

Kimball Avenue alone carries over 20,000 vehicles daily. Improvements throughout the NCC included increased lane widths and dedicated turn lanes, improved storm sewer infrastructure, protected medians, traffic signal and crosswalk innovations, pedestrian walkways throughout the corridor, bicycle improvements, bus stops, along with streetscape and landscape enhancements.

Over the next 20 years, these improvements are expected to help support the addition of 5,000 jobs in Manhattan within the EDGE District.

The city’s involvement in the project includes infrastructure, streetscape, landscape, signage, and pedestrian and bicycle improvements in the area. Kansas State University and its partners in the KSU Foundation and K-State Athletics are leading the way to further development the EDGE Collaboration District.
