Scholarship Policy

Manhattan Parks and Recreation is committed to ensuring that all individuals interested in joining our programs have the opportunity to do so. Numerous programs and activities are eligible for scholarships. 

How to Apply

  • Participant can provide visual proof of participation in assistance programs like SNAP EBT, WIC or Free and Reduce Lunch program at any Parks and Recreation facility. This will provide 50% cost assistance to any Manhattan Parks and Recreation program or activity. 
  • If participants are in need of additional aid, a short application can be filled out and can provide further cost assistance.

The scholarship program shall apply to the following services:

  • Youth programs
  • Membership programs to Sunset Zoo, Flint Hills Discovery Center, recreation centers and swimming pools
  • Adult programs with individual registration fees
  • City special events
  • Other similar services

The scholarship program shall not be applied to the following services:

  • Adult team registrations
  • City-facilitated or City co-sponsored services or special events
  • Facility rentals
  • Concessions and merchandise sales
  • Permit fees
  • Other similar services

Scholarship criteria for eligibility

  • Participants who meet the following requirements are eligible for a scholarship equivalent to on-half (50%) of the fees: 
    • The participant must reside within the city limits of Manhattan, or is a student enrolled in a USD 383 Manhattan-Ogden school
    • Provide appropriate documentation of participation in one of the following:
      • Participation in the Free and Reduced Lunch Program (FRLP)
      • Participation in a federal or state low-income benefits program (ex. SNAP or WIC)
      • Participation in another government or social services program related to financial need, verified through documentation approved by the Director
      • Income level at 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines
  • If participants are in need of additional cost assistance they can be eligible for a Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) scholarship, based upon income. You can view a copy of the Federal Poverty Guidelines here.
    • 125% - 149% FPG Scholarship: 60% Discount
    • 124% FPG Scholarship: 70% Discount
    • 75% - 99% FPG Scholarship: 80% Discount
    • 0% - 74% FPG Scholarship: 100% Discount
